Ranthambore Tour Itinerary

Ranthambore National Park is situated 14 kms from Sawai Madhopur district of eastern Rajasthan in India. The Park derives its name from the Ranth-ambhor Fort situated within its precincts. The Park is surrounded by the Vindhyas and Aravalis hill range. By the turn of the century the Ranthambore forests had become the private hunting reserves of the Maharaja of Jaipur and Sanctuary establishes in the year 1955 by the Indian Government & was declared as Project Tiger reserves in the year 1973.It acknowledged National Park in the year 1980 & later in the year 1991 the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve was enlarged to include Sawai Man Singh & Keladevi sanctuaries, total area was 1334 km. and bound by the Chambal River in the south and Banas in the north. In 2006, Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve (RTR) was approximately 1394 and later on forest department has enlarged including core and buffer area thus it is approx 1700.22 sq km. Across the river Banas, lies the Keladevi sanctuary, while the Sawai Man Singh sanctuary lies to the south of the Park.

Ranthambore Attractions

Ranthambore Fort
Ranthambore Fort was constructed in the year 944 AD. From this fort, you could have a breathtaking view of Ranthambore National Park. The massive construction of 7 kms circumference is one among the oldest forts in India. It had remained a powerful fort that was hard to conquer owing to its topographical advantage. Built by a Chauhan warrior, the fort changed many hands and it is believed that Akbar, the famous Mughal emperor also had stayed in the fort. Mughals gifted the fort to Maharaja Of Jaipur towards the end of 17th century. The fort displays awe-inspiring craftsmanship and the interiors are equally spellbinding. Hammir Court in the fort is famous for acoustics as even a whisper made here can be heard at the far end of the construction. It is suggested not to forget your binoculars when you set off to visit the fort. From the fort, if you look down through your binoculars, you will be able to spot tigers in action. Migratory birds in great numbers are seen here owing to a many water bodies located here.

Surwal Lake
Surwal Lake is located 25 kms away from Ranthambore. You are sure to be enchanted by the beauty of the lake, which enjoys the generosity of Mother Nature in abundance. The best time to be here is between November and March, as during the migratory season you will find birds from all parts of the world spread their wings to reach here. The beautiful water bodies invite birds whose melodious songs offer you the best music during winter. Being a seasonal lake, you will find it dry between April and May and hence it would be best to plan your trip accordingly.

Kachida Valley
You will love the valley at first sight. It is located on the border of Ranthambore National Park. You will find panthers in plenty here. Leopards avoid the thick inner forest owing to the domination of tigers. You could have a great time going Jeep Safari and viewing various wild animals including dear, wild boar and sloth bear.

Raj Bagh Ruins
Raj Bagh Ruins are situated between Padam Talao and Raj Bagh Talao. The place takes you to the past and back to prehistoric period with its collections of prehistoric monuments. The stone structures belonging to ancient period include palace outhouses, arches and domes. Raj Bagh Ruins not only stands as a reminder of the bygone era but it offers the best scenic beauty owing to its location surrounded by jungles and picturesque landscapes.

Ranthambore National Park
Ranthambore National Park could be your natural destination. The park is considered to be one among the finest parks for conservation of the undefeatable predators. The park is located in a scenic environment surrounded by Aravali and Vindhya hill ranges and very close to Thar Desert. With hills and valleys, the park offers spectacular sights that take your breath away. The 300 plus square km area houses various other wild species namely leopards, hyenas, sambhar, jackals, deer and many more. This is a wonderful place to watch birds too as there are over 260 species found here. Jeep safari is available. Though the park remains open for visitors from October to May, the best time to make your tour would be between November and March.

Trinetra Ganesh Temple
Situated inside Ranthambore Fort, Trinetra Ganesh Temple is yet another attraction in Ranthambore National Park. Trinetra (Three-Eyed) Ganesh or Pratham Ganesh Temple is amongst the oldest temples in Rajasthan. It is one of those temples, where one can find the deities of the entire family of Lord Ganesha. The temple was built by King Hammer, who is believed to be an ardent devotee of Lord Ganesha. The legend has it that while King Hammer was at war here, their stocks of food were running out. Then one night, Lord Ganesha appeared before the King and assured him that the stocks will be filled and his problems will be solved by the next morning. Miraculously, the next day, the war ceased and the food stock replenished; therefore the king decided to build a temple for Lord Gamesha here. A large number of Ganesha devotees throng this temple and five aartis are held each day here.

Padam Lake
This is the largest lake in this Wildlife Reserve and is one of the main sources of water for the wild animals. The best time of the day to visit here is early morning, when a large number of animals are seen drinking at the lake. One can also spot the rare Chinkara deer here as well. The lake looks more beautiful during the season of water lilies; in fact this is why the lake got its name as Padam, which literally means flowers.

How to Reach here
By Air : Jaipur is the nearest airport for Ranthambore National Park. The Park is located just 180 km away from Jaipur city. One can hire cabs or avail bus services to reach the park.
By Rail : The nearest major railway station is Sawai Madhopur which is well connected to other major cities across India. One can hire a cab or avail the frequent private/public bus services from Sawai Madhopur to reach Ranthambore National Park.
By Road : Ranthambore National Park is located just 11 km away from Sawai Madhopur and plenty of buses ply between Sawai Madhopur and the park. You can also hire cabs or taxis from Sawai Madhopur to reach your destination.
